I am starting a new journey to try to lose weight and get healthier. I have been very blessed with good health throughout my life. I have allowed the pounds to accumulate over the past 17 years, and I really want to shed them and keep them off. I weighed myself Monday or Tuesday this week (the 12th or 13th), and I weighed 239.7 lbs. ... the most I have ever weighed! I started exercising on my elliptical machine Tuesday. I did 20 minutes and 20 minutes Wednesday. Yesterday, I did an hour in 2 30 minute sessions. Today, I have done two 30 minute sessions, which totalled 590 calories burned and 1.5 miles. I am increasing intensity, and therefore burning more calories. I love my elliptical machine ... it is great to not have to worry about the weather or how I am dressed in order to exercise.
I know that willpower is NOT the key to weight loss. I know I must program my life and my surroundings for success. I also know that I must do things that I can sustain over the rest of my life.

Introduction - January 16, 2009

I have been married for 35 years to Charlie, and I am the mother of 5 grown children ... Carissa (34), Brian(31), Stacy(27), Shelley(27), and Gina (25). All are married but Gina ... Carissa married Mike in 2006, Brian married Shannon in 2005, Stacy married Steve in 2006, and Shelley married Eric in 2003.
Shelley and Eric have 5 children (therefore I have 5 grandchildren). Their son is Logan ... he was born February 22nd, 2004. They also have identical quadruplet daughters who were born March 24th, 2005. The girls are Adelle, Bonnie, Chloe, and Daphne. The girls were conceived without the help of any kind of fertility treatments. In fact, Logan was only 7 months old when Shelley got pregnant with the girls, and she and Eric were not even trying to get pregnant. When the girls were born, they were the 45th set of identical quads born without the use of fertility in recorded history and the first set born in Texas.
My sixth grandchild is due in May ... Carissa and Mike are expecting.
